Dan, Jayson, and I rolled out of the marina at 5:45am. Dan’s boat, the Misadventure, slipped effortlessly past the Rod n Reel out to the calm bay. Once past the go slow zone, Dan said, “Let’s go south”. Jayson and I said, “Go for it”. Twenty minutes later, we were setting the spread near the eastern channel edge opposite the power plant.

Never having used planer boards, we followed Dan’s directions to set the planers. Once they were set, it was easy to set lines. We put white lures on the starboard side and green lures to port. We used 6 tandem rigs.  4-5 oz heavy jig w/ a 9-11″ shad combined with 1.5-2 oz light jig w/ a 6-7″ shad. We trolled around about 2 hours looking for signs of sea life. Finally we found a group of fish in an area to the west of James Island. We caught seven fish, all over 30″. Our entry was about 40″ and 28.34 lbs. We did not win, but had a great day on the water.
